Children & Youth
The Children’s Ministry programs at Grace United Methodist Church are designed to engage children through a variety of activities, classes, and service opportunities. We encourage children to take an active role in their church and their relationship with Christ. We have a group of dedicated volunteers who work together to provide fun programs year round. Opportunities for children include:
Nurseries – Nurseries are available during Sunday School (9:45 am), the Worship Service (10:55 am) and Sunday evening programs. Certified care is offered for Infants and Toddlers.
The Infant Nursery (Room W106) provides stimulating space for play and a quiet area for babies to rest.
The Toddler Nursery (Room W103) offers a spacious area for play and learning. Once the babies are stable on their feet, they are able to participate in more active fun and toddler Bible lessons and projects.
Children's Sunday School– Grace's PreK through 1st grade and Elementary 2nd through 5th grade Sunday School classes are focused on providing a multi-sensory experience that allows children to gain familiarity with Bible stories. Experienced teachers co-lead our classes and share the stories, activities, and take-home materials of Cokesbury's ROCK SOLID curriculum. "At each age level on every Sunday the children will be invited to a faith experience... They will seek to understand where the Bible speaks to them today. Lessons are intentionally written around this faith experience. Activities, crafts, stories, and games will contribute to this faith experience."
Kid’s Corner is offered for children 3 years old through 1st grade and provides an opportunity for young children to experience their own "mini-liturgical worship service," which introduces them to the form and experience of worship that is age appropriate. Following this time of worship and Story, children share a snack and enjoy a time for crafts, games and projects.
Kids 4 Christ, a program of fun fellowship and learning, is offered each Sunday evening from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. for children, ages 4 through 12 years old. *This program is scheduled to take place at the same time as our Youth Program and our Adult Education classes. With a team of experienced and enthusiastic adult leaders, children share weekly devotions, sing, play hand-bells, learn Bible stories, play games and create craft projects. Children are invited to participate in a Scripture memory program, earning Bible Bucks for purchases from the Bible Treasures store. In addition to Scripture memorization, children will learn some of the foundations of our faith, such as the Lord's Prayer, Apostles' Creed, and Books of the Bible.
Youth Sunday Schoolis offered for 6th through 12th grade students and is located in the Youth Lounge of our Education Building. The class is currently discussing the book, Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God (Blackaby). This class blends Bible history with informal discussion and outside-class projects to provide students with an excellent foundation of faith.
UMYF - United Methodist Youth Fellowship: Grace's youth group, Contact gracedowntown.net, enthusiastically invites young people, grades 6 through 12, for fellowship with a short devotion, prayer for the week ahead, and awesome programs that include opportunities for large group games in our new gym, guest speakers and teachers, shared excursions for missions and outreach, and a time for fun and building friendships with other youth and a team of energetic youth counselors. We hold regular Sunday night meetings, offer service with local missions, take trips, and help one another grow in our relationship with Christ. Please see the church newsletter for dates and times for our activities this month.
